Red Velvet Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting

Ingredients:

  • 2½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1½ cups sugar
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1½ cups vegetable oil
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 tbsp red food coloring
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp white vinegar

Cream Cheese Frosting:

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Cake: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). In a bowl, sift together flour, sugar, baking soda, cocoa powder, and salt. In another bowl, beat eggs, oil, buttermilk, food coloring, vanilla, and vinegar until smooth. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients.
  2. Bake the Cake: Divide the batter between two greased 9-inch cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes. Cool completely before frosting.
  3. Make the Frosting: Beat cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla until smooth. Frost the cooled cake.
