Fried Green Tomatoes

1. Fried Green Tomatoes with Remoulade
Ingredients:
- 4 large green tomatoes, sliced into ½-inch rounds
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup cornmeal
- ½ cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- ½ tsp cayenne pepper
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- Vegetable oil, for frying
Remoulade Sauce:
- ½ cup mayonnaise
- 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
- 1 tbsp pickle relish
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 tsp hot sauce
- 1 clove garlic, minced
Instructions:
- Prepare the Tomatoes: Soak the tomato slices in buttermilk for 10 minutes.
- Make the Breading: In a shallow dish, combine cornmeal, flour, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper.
- Fry the Tomatoes: Heat ½ inch of vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Dredge each tomato slice in the cornmeal mixture, coating evenly. Fry until golden and crispy, about 2-3 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels.
- Make the Remoulade Sauce: Mix all sauce ingredients in a small bowl. Serve with fried green tomatoes.
