1. Fried Green Tomatoes with Remoulade

Ingredients:

  • 4 large green tomatoes, sliced into ½-inch rounds
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • ½ tsp cayenne pepper
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

Remoulade Sauce:

  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp pickle relish
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp hot sauce
  • 1 clove garlic, minced

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Tomatoes: Soak the tomato slices in buttermilk for 10 minutes.
  2. Make the Breading: In a shallow dish, combine cornmeal, flour, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper.
  3. Fry the Tomatoes: Heat ½ inch of vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Dredge each tomato slice in the cornmeal mixture, coating evenly. Fry until golden and crispy, about 2-3 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels.
  4. Make the Remoulade Sauce: Mix all sauce ingredients in a small bowl. Serve with fried green tomatoes.
