Buttermilk Fried Chicken with Honey Hot Sauce
Ingredients:
- 1 whole chicken, cut into 8 pieces
- 2 cups buttermilk
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp garlic powder
- 1 tbsp onion powder
- 1 tsp cayenne pepper
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- Vegetable oil, for frying
Honey Hot Sauce:
- ½ cup honey
- ¼ cup hot sauce
- 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
Instructions:
- Marinate the Chicken: In a bowl, soak chicken pieces in buttermilk for at least 4 hours or overnight in the refrigerator.
- Prepare the Breading: In another bowl, mix flour, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper.
- Fry the Chicken: Heat 2 inches of oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Dredge chicken in the flour mixture and fry until golden brown and cooked through, about 15 minutes. Drain on paper towels.
- Make the Honey Hot Sauce: Combine honey, hot sauce, and apple cider vinegar in a small saucepan over low heat until warm. Serve over or alongside fried chicken.
