Buttermilk Fried Chicken with Honey Hot Sauce

Ingredients:

  • 1 whole chicken, cut into 8 pieces
  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp cayenne pepper
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

Honey Hot Sauce:

  • ½ cup honey
  • ¼ cup hot sauce
  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar

Instructions:

  1. Marinate the Chicken: In a bowl, soak chicken pieces in buttermilk for at least 4 hours or overnight in the refrigerator.
  2. Prepare the Breading: In another bowl, mix flour, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper.
  3. Fry the Chicken: Heat 2 inches of oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Dredge chicken in the flour mixture and fry until golden brown and cooked through, about 15 minutes. Drain on paper towels.
  4. Make the Honey Hot Sauce: Combine honey, hot sauce, and apple cider vinegar in a small saucepan over low heat until warm. Serve over or alongside fried chicken.
